Hey everybody, so for this episode of Page Places I'm gonna describe a place I visited in Los Angeles.
I've visited many many Hard Rock Cafes across America, and have seen some really cool stuff in all of them, but for the purposes of this blog I'll describe a visit I took to the one in Los Angeles. I was home on R&R from Iraq in Northern California, and decided to drive down to L.A. with my brother and a couple of buddies. My brother had never been to So-Cal so we went around the town to all the touristy stuff, and I suggested we have lunch at the Hard Rock which is near Universal Studios.
When we got inside, the place was not very busy and the second floor was empty and not used for seating. We had lunch and started walking around looking at all the memorabilia and decided to explore the empty second floor. After browsing the walls I saw something out of the corner of my eye that I had to check out. It was one of Jimmy Pages Gibson Double-Neck EDS 1275's!
I strolled on over to it and admired it for several minutes, remarkably it wasn't behind a glass case and just lay exposed on the wall. Working up the courage and looking over my shoulder, I took a guitar pick out of my pocket (I carry one with me pretty much wherever I go, because, ya never know, haha) and strummed the strings, first on the 12-string neck, then on the 6 string neck. I even decided to form an E chord on the fretboard.
It was sooo cool to be able to touch an instrument that Jimmy actually owned and played, and for it to be his double-neck that he used to play "Stairway to Heaven" live in concert with made it just that more insane. So if you ever find yourself in L.A. check out the Hard Rock Cafe, it can be a bit cheesy and cliche, but it's an experience you won't soon forget if you are a Rock and Roll fan.
