"Jet Black"

Here is a song that Jimmy did while a member of Neil Christian & The Crusaders. It's an instrumental piece and there is absolutely no point of reference whatsoever, no published tabs, no chord charts, nothing, so I kinda had to do this one by ear. This is a crazy avante garde piece that I don't think at this stage I have much of a hope of piecing together...but...I did manage to figure out that cool intro lick that repeats through the whole song so if you can learn to play this, you can at least play along with the rest of the band:

Firstly you must drop the tuning on the low E string to D, the song won't work any other way. After you do that proceed to play the following...

e-----------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------
A---------------0-----------------------
D--0------3---------3-----5--5--3--5-

That lick repeats consistently the whole way through. Give it a shot, you may not be playing this obscure Page gem note for note, but at least you can back him up a bit.

  1. Jimmy's use of echo shows up earlier in his career than I expected. I wonder if he was incorporating an Echoplex at this time...
